DETAILS: For over 2 years, the Fringe Collective has worked to “bring culture to the counterculture” merging the underground “burners” with a variety of artistic projects pushing music forward. The Fringe hosts Extracentric, a monthly showcase of live music and djs aiming to merge the crowds and blur the lines.
On May 5, Extracentric’s special Cinco de Mayo edition welcomes tech hop trailblazer OOAH the Turntable Junkie of the Glitch Mob crew. New Orleans native Josh Mayer is fast becoming a legend on the West Coast underground for his combination of self-produced dub break-beats and, electronic hip hop, and world-class scratch skills. The ability to not only formulate and compose fresh music, but also to improvise on it in a live context is a collection of skills rarely seen in the electronic music world. Breaking down the barriers between hip hop turntablism and club music sounds, Ooah and his crew may not have coined the phrase “glitch hop” but they have certainly come to personify it.
Other entertainment includes a breaks/hip hop set by Fringe resident MOTION POTION and dj sets by Fringe residents MYCHO COCOA (breaks), and VICTOR VEGA (electr-house), TIM DIETZ (breaks)
